What Is A Transmission Flush?

Metal on metal commands the forefront of all vehicles, but that metal on metal generates a lot of heat. This is why fluid, or lubrication of any sort, is added to systems in your vehicle. It keeps those moving metal parts from overheating and warping so they can perform their duties without issue. Whether you drive a manual or an automatic, the transmission requires lubricant. Whether your engine is diesel or gasoline, your transmission requires fluid. And like any substance created, transmission fluid will degrade and eventually become contaminated over time. That is why flushing the transmission and replacing that fluid every so often is so important. If that fluid is left unchecked and continues to try and perform while dirty or compromised, it puts the entire transmission system at risk. Flushing a transmission system requires specialized equipment to aid in the removal of the lubricant in the beginning. The flush not only helps remove the old fluid but it also helps to scrape any contaminants along with it so that it doesn’t adhere to any part of the transmission system while on its way out. The pump that is used to transfer the fluid is called a pump inlet, and the machine’s line is essentially attached to the pump intake of your transmission. Once the machine is turned on, the fluid is transferred via cooling lines through your vehicle and into a drainage pan. Once all of the lubricant has been removed, the transmission pan and filter are replaced. New fluid is poured back into the system.
