What Does Oil Do?
Oil is a multifaceted substance that is indispensable to car engines. As a natural lubricant, its main job is to circulate the engine to prevent friction between the numerous parts. By doing so, the engine pieces are unable to grind against one another, which can ultimately create friction. Oil also helps keep the engine compartment clean. Because it flows throughout, it transports any collected debris (such as grime and dirt buildup) to the oil filter to prevent corrosion and blockage. Engines are extremely hot by nature, and oil aids in temperature control by removing any surplus heat generated by combustion.
What Happens If I Don’t Change My Oil?
Over time, oil will start to break down and deplete, becoming less effective in your engine. One of the most common consequences of neglected oil change services is that the parts will no longer receive the right amount of lubrication, which results in friction and wearing. This can lead to overheating and part failure, and in the most extreme cases, total engine failure. Performance also takes a hit. Without an adequate supply of oil, fuel efficiency suffers and engine output is severely lessened. Your engine is also more susceptible to corrosion when engine oil is low. Of course, this can all be avoided if you bring your vehicle in for regular oil change service here at West Escondido Automotive & Transmission.
What Oil Do I Need?
Unbeknownst to many, there are four general types of motor oil we use during oil changes. Conventional motor oil is the most commonly used in vehicles, often in models with a simple engine design and low to average mileage. Full synthetic motor oil is generally reserved for performance-oriented vehicles that require high levels of lubrication; it also aids in fuel efficiency and helps reduce engine drag. Synthetic blend motor oil is a combination of full synthetic and conventional oil, which lets drivers enjoy the performance and protection of full synthetic without the higher price tag. The fourth option we offer for oil change service is high mileage motor oil, and it is used in vehicles with 75,000 miles or more. This type is designed to reduce oil consumption, minimize leaks, and decrease smoke and emissions in older vehicles.
